This is where the longform aspect of the film series truly comes into play, when we flash back to when Harry first wore the Sorting Hat and everyone is so young, and the adults are so much less complex. He still has to learn the truth about Snape, his father, Dumbledore - basically Harry has to learn the lessons that truly make us adults, the lessons that let us understand the foibles and weaknesses of the grown ups who were once giants in our lives. It helps that there’s a lot of information yet to deliver, and that Harry’s voyage of personal discovery is far from over at the beginning of the film.

Screenwriter Steve Kloves and director David Yates have structured it perfectly so that the movie breathes, taking moments between the big scenes and the big action, allowing a pace that almost lets Deathly Hallows Part II feel like an actual movie, and not just the third act of a larger story. It shows you that he actually cared for Harry Potter and that he loved Lily. This is because they are giving the audience more information about Snapes character and what he is actually like compared to the other films. These conversations with Dumbledore seem to be the longest ones within this extract. When all of those different effects are over with it it has a very bright light onto Snape where he has a conversation for Dumbledore. It then goes onto a cross cutting scene of different events within Snapes life, within these cross cutting they have a fade in/ fade out effects for each one so they overlap each other which flows really nicely. She isnt in the center of the frame either which makes the audience look in different places within the shot.Īfter it shows them when they were younger it then does that flowing effect onto a flash forward of Lily and James dancing which only last for about 5 seconds which then they dissolve into the blackness. My favourite transition is when it goes from the part where Lily and Snape are lying down to when they are in Hogwarts with the sorting hat.
Through out these scenes they use a special effect for the transitions which makes it flow a little bit more easier and actually goes with what this extract is about, snapes memories. When he does this it uses a flowing/pouring type of transition into his first flashback (as the picture tells you below) In this flashback it shows Snape talking to Lily (Harry’s Mom) Through out these first opening sequences the camera does a slight warp which moves slightly left and right, during the scenes where they are young. The opening of this extract has Harry Potter looking down into the camera where he puts his head underwater.
